Classroom Assistant Volunteer

Location: Barnsley

When: Monday 10.00am - 12.00pm

Role reports to: Progression Coach

You will contribute to ending homelessness by

Making a real difference in the lives of our members by helping them work towards gaining skills and qualifications, ensuring that they are empowered to leave homelessness behind for good. You will do this by providing support to the class tutor as well as the Crisis members who attend the class. This could involve helping out with small groups, session administration or one-to-one support with individual members.

This is a problem that affects us all in society and you can be part of the solution.


 

 

 

 

  • Commitment to learning and an interest in the subject. Specific subject knowledge / experience may be necessary depending on the topic 
  • Interpersonal communication skills with a particular focus on listening  
  • Good time-keeping and reliability 
  • Non-judgmental, patient and friendly 
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and maintaining boundaries 
  • Be positive, productive and have a passion to help end homelessness 

 

  • Workplace experience in a national organisation 
  • The opportunity to share existing or develop new skills in a friendly and supportive environment 
  • Opportunities to work with staff and fellow volunteers during the year and an invite to our member celebrations where you can help us recognise the achievements of our members 
  • Regular meetings with your supervisor to discuss how your volunteering is going and what other opportunities and training may be available to you together with an induction

  • With direction from the tutor, support members to engage with the session and where appropriate use your initiative to support members 
  • If applicable, photocopy course materials and provide one to one or group support 
  • If applicable, to help set up equipment before the workshop and help clear up equipment after the workshop has finished 
  • Feedback any challenges or opportunities that arise during session to the class tutor 
  • Assisting the tutor with resource administration and the completion of paperwork 

 

We expect volunteers to comply with Crisis policies including health and safety, data protection and code of conduct at all times.
