Employment Drop-In Volunteer

Location: Edinburgh

When: Mondays 10.00am - 12.00pm

Role reports to: Progression Coach

You will contribute to ending homelessness by

Supporting our members to search for work and thus hopefully a sustainable end to homelessness. You will do this by assisting members with internet job searches and applications.

  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal 
  • Lively interest in supporting adults into employment  
  • Good knowledge of Email, Internet searching and CV formatting 
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to engage people from different backgrounds 
  • Positive attitude with patience and good sense of humour 
  • Knowledge of or interest in understanding DWP practices and policies 
  • Good time-keeping and reliability 
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and maintaining boundaries 
  • Be positive, productive and have a passion to help end homelessness 

 

  • Workplace experience in a national organisation 
  • Opportunities to work with staff and clients during the year and to support and gain a greater understanding of member’s career goals and aspirations at Crisis 
  • Regular meetings with your supervisor to discuss how your volunteering is going and what other opportunities and training may be available to you together with an induction 
  • A platform for building confidence  
  • A reference from a reputable organisation  

 

  • To assist the Work and Learning Coach in a positive and supportive manner 
  • To give 1-2-1 support to individual members in a friendly but professional manner 
  • Keeping the job board up to date with upcoming recruitment days or job vacancies 
  • Helping members with job searches, formatting CVs  
  • To monitor and manage resources and ensure they are kept in an orderly, safe and secure manner 
  • Communicate with the Work and Learning Coach and assist with any tasks necessary 
  • Support members with IT and improve their confidence with IT 

 

We expect volunteers to comply with Crisis policies including health and safety, data protection and code of conduct at all times. 

  • Travel and lunch expenses are reimbursed where appropriate
