Counselling Volunteer

Location: Edinburgh

When: Mondays 10.00am - 12.00pm

Role reports to: Progression Coach

You will contribute to ending homelessness by

Helping our members to build resilience, good mental health and wellbeing. You will do this by offering one to one therapy sessions to our members.

  • Recognised professional counselling / psychotherapy qualification.
  • Member of BACP or UKCP
  • BACP/UKCP counsellor accreditation or working towards accreditation (Crisis can provide advice and support around accreditation)
  • Experience of working with people with a range of mental health issues (ideally as a counsellor, key worker, coach or support worker etc.)
  • Good time-keeping and reliability 
  • Non-judgmental, patient and friendly 
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and maintaining boundaries 
  • Be positive, productive and have a passion to help end homelessness 

 

  • Workplace experience in a national organisation 
  • The opportunity to share existing or develop new skills in a friendly and supportive environment

  • Regular meetings with your supervisor to discuss how your volunteering is going and what other opportunities and training may be available to you together with an induction

  • Deliver at least two counselling sessions per week lasting 50 minutes
  • Provide counselling for a maximum caseload of two members at any one time, referred to you by the Wellbeing and Mental Health Manager or the Mental Health Coordinator
  • Complete records of attendance and session notes, and store them securely at Skylight
  • Signpost members to sessions on the Skylight timetable, or to the Progression Team for additional support, as appropriate
  • Adhere to the ethical guidelines of your affiliated professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP)
